Indian Head PenniesThe Indian Penny is a one cent coin designed by James Barton Longacre and was minted from 1859 to 1909 in the United States. The obverse side features a profile of Liberty wearing head dress. For the reverse side, there are two designs: laurel wreath (1859) and oak wreath and shield (1860 - 1909). Indian Head cents can be categorized into 2 types: the first one was minted in Philadelphia (no mint mark) from 1859 to 1909 and has a composition of 88% copper and 12% nickel; the second one was minted in San Francisco (mint mark S) with a composition of 95% copper and 5% tin or zinc. This coin was replaced by the Lincoln Cent (wheat).
